For All Mankind — Series 2 Episode 9 — Triage — A Review

1st June, 2021.

Right …

I’m officially going to go to bed, in a few minutes time.

It’s getting late: I was up at 5:30, this morning!

And frankly?

Eno’s Ambient 4: On Land is doing a good job of being odd in the background.

Tal Coat is quite something.

At ANY rate?

I’m doing my usual thing: of starting a post about episode nine of For All Mankind’s second season.

I’ll be writing more about it, on Wednesday.

But?

Safe to say, the episode goes out with a bang …

2nd June, 2021.

Right: it’s the day after I watched Triage.

I felt should add a couple of points.

Yes: I’m listening to Ambient 4: On Land, again.

And, additionally … ?

I’m ripping the the Dr Who — The Collection Limited Edition Season 10 version of The Planet of the Daleks.

I’m looking forward to watching it: as the CGI versions of the episodes look like they could be interesting.

New Version

Original version

Let’s more on, shall we?

Episode 9 — Triage —  with literal triaging: with the Jamestown doctor trying to revive a shot Russian cosmonaut: with one of the marines — Webster, (Michaela Conlin) — admitting she shot the cosmonauts, when they went for what she thought was a gun.

Ellen, Margo and General Nelson (Jodi Balfour, Wrenn Schmidt and John Marshall Jones) are on the other end of the video link to Houston: discussing exactly how bad the situation is …

Post titles?

Post titles, we see the Russian Ambassador to the UN condemning the incident in no uncertain terms.

Condemning the incident … and the nuclear missiles the USA is sending to Jamestown Base, on the next Seadragon* launch.

As a result?   General Nelson tells Ellen and Margot the Seadragon flight will be accompanied by Pathfinder One.

An armed Pathfinder One.

Ed (Joel Kinnaman), the pilot, doesn’t just have this on his plate.   Karen (Shantel VanSanten) has told Ed she had an affair … and wants marriage counselling.

All this whilst Gordo and Tracey seem to be reconciling.   And Larry, Ellen’s husband, gets a visit from a senior Republican†.   One who thinks Ellen would be a good President, little knowing about her home life would scandalise 1980s America.

Meanwhile … ?   And after Jamestown crew have let in two Russian crewmen: to take their dead colleague home, and make sure their loving one is being treated well.

The episode ends …

With Pomeranz spotting a lone Russian outside the base.   A lone Russian with a gun … three bullets … very good aim …

And intent on giving Jamestown a very hard day.

Now …

I have to admit, at this stage of Westworld’s second season?   I was feeling impressed: but — looking back — maybe I shouldn’t have been.

I wasn’t not impressed enough to keep watching.

I was far more impressed with the last two episodes of The Man in the High Castle’s second season.

Thus far?   For All Mankind is reminding me more of The Man in the High Castle.

In other words, the thing’s a very good Cold War drama.

Granted, there’s no Obergruppenführer Smith in For All Mankind: but I don’t think the series needs one.

At any rate, For All Mankind keep ratcheting up the tension: and, in ending tonight’s episode an invasion to make the Cybermen in The Moonbase, jealous?

I’ve seen a perfect penultimate episode, and one that bodes well for for episode ten.

Frankly?   I’ll be watching that, next Tuesday, 8th July, and doing a write up, the night afterwards.

I’m looking forward to a big finish …

*        In this season of For All Mankind, the ocean launched Seadragons are The craft NASA uses to take lots of cargo to the moon.   They’re based on a 1962 concept that — in the real world — was never used by NASA.

†        The character concerned?   Is a fictionalised version of Republican strategist, Lee Atwater.
