Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-11-2021: World Diabetes Day

14th November, 2021.

Right … it’s a Sunday.

And … ?

Frankly, I’m having dinner and my mothers, today: and hopefully be able to pick up the repaired phone on the way.

I just hope the shop’s managed the job on time.

And that I get home for Dr Who!

~≈®≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Edith†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Mum and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        14th November is World Diabetes Day.   How many types of diabetes are there: two, three or four?

Q2)        Name one of them.

Q3)        Whatever form you have, if you’re diabetic, you have trouble with which ‘I’: inhibin, insulin or insulin-like growth hormone?

Q4)        Many diabetics will have polydipsia as a result of the condition.   Polydipsia means you’re increasingly what: hungry, thirsty or tired?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Diabetes is caused by problems with what: the pharynx, pancreas or kidneys?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        After the Armistice that ended World War One, 13th November, 1918, saw Allied troops occupy Constantinople.   Constantinople was the then capital of where: the German Empire, the Ottoman Empire or the Russian Empire?
A1)        The Ottoman Empire.

Q2)        13th November, 354AD, saw the birth of Saint Augustine.   He’s the patron saint of whom: chefs, brewers or farmers?
A2)        Brewers.

Q3)        The Caister Lifeboat Disaster took place: on 13th November, 1901, off the coast of Caister on Sea.   Caister on Sea is in which English county: Norfolk, Suffolk or Essex?
A3)        Norfolk.

A5)        Treasure Island.
Here’s a thought …
“Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as just diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by a high blood sugar level over a prolonged period of time.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Diabetes.
And a playlist: from the hardest working diabetic in show business …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Cheers for that, Olga: I’d been wondering why the word August had been floating around my head!
JUST the UK, you say?   I suspect that the issue was just in one of Google’s UK datacenter.   Probably someone pulled a plug out with out closing something down.
Hopefully?   The phone will be ready … !

        Very true, Edith, very true.

Hello, Mum!   Are we OK for the 15:20 pickup?

^        Ah HA!   The ol’ Daylight Saving situation!   I still don’t know why we do it, Debbi … !   But, if I recall, correctly?   When the Empire ruled India, Indian Standard Time was set five and a half hours ahead of GMT: supposedly, so the British officials heading for the Raj could find out local time, simply by wearing their watches upside down.

As a final thought … ?

I originally did a Diabetes Day Teaser for the Brentwood Gazette, in 2011: one I recycled on the blog, in 2014.

Back when I hadn’t been diagnosed with the condition.

Getting that diagnosis? Does put a different spin on things

Lady and the Tramp. That was an excellent movie. I think that was Peggy Lee voicing the cats.

I hope you got the phone all right. I went on one of the walks they organise in Barcelona, although I was covering it for the radio as well, and went with a group that had a historian as a guide. Very entertaining, but it ended up taking much longer, although I am sure I'll repeat.
I hope you enjoyed the meal today.
