Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13th July, 2022.

13th July, 2022.

It’s official: it’s Wednesday.

It’s one I’m expecting to be quiet.

Quiet or otherwise?   I’m expecting it to be another hot day.

And?   To be brutally honest?

I’d love to see a thunderstorm.

It might just break the heat.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        13th July, 1814, saw the formation of the Carabinieri.   The Carabinieri are gendarmes, armed police, in which Italian speaking country: Italy, Switzerland or San Marino?

Q2)        13th July, 1940, saw the birth of actor, Patrick Stewart.   He’s currently appearing in which Star Trek series: Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek Picard or Star Trek Lower Decks?

Q3)        David Cameron resigns as UK Prime Minister: on 13th July, 2016.   Who replaced him in the job: Theresa May, Boris Johnson or Tony Blair?

Q4)        John Dee was born on 13th July, 1527.   He was Court Astronomer to whom: Charles 2nd, James 6th and 1st or Elizabeth 1st?

Q5)        Finally … ?   And whilst Prime Minister?   13th July, 1962, Harold MacMillan sacked seven members of his Cabinet.   It’s become known as the Night of the Long what: knives, forks or spoons?
Yesterday’s answers are in today’s video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Director and actor, Tod Browning, was born on 12th July.   12th July of which years of the 1880s?
A1)        1880.

Q2)        Browning directed the 1927 silent film, London after Midnight.   It starred whom: Lon Chaney, Sr, Lon Chaney, Jr, or Fay Wray?
A2)        Lon Chaney, Sr.

Q3)        Browning made London after Midnight, along side many other films with that star.   But with which studio: Warner Brothers, Universal or MGM?
A3)        MGM.

Q4)        Browning directed what’s considered to be the first talking horror film: released in 1931.   What English language film was it: Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde, Dracula or Frankenstein?
A4)        Dracula.   (There’s a Spanish language version directed by George Melford: it used the same set.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Schlitzie, Daisy and Violent Hilton, and Wallace Ford, all appeared in which Tod Browning film: The Thirteenth Film, Iron Man or Freaks?
A5)        Freaks.
Here’s a thought …
“There is (gentle reader) nothing (the works of God only set apart) which so much beautifies and adorns the soul and mind of man as does knowledge of the good arts and sciences.”
John Dee, 13 July 1527 – 1608 or 1609.
And a clue

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        My pleasure, Olga, any time!   And cheers: the washing machine is working well!
I’ll have to see if there’s English translations of the other three: assuming I’ve got the cash.
I’ve been thinking I should check Freaks out: it’s on Apple’s iTunes Store, so I can rent it cheaply enough.   It just seems a shame the studio cut it to ribbons before it got near the screen.

        Hello, Mum!

Funny you should mention Years and Years, Debbi: that was rather good, as well.   AND it was the first thing I saw Lydia West in.   (The ladies did rather well.)

^        I think the last time the England Men’s did that well, Trevor, I was working at the Hutton: 5-1 in an England v Germany match, wasn’t it?

Q1) Italy

Q2) Star Trek Picard I didn’t realise he was quite that old, for some reason. I hadn’t seen him recently on anything (I’m not watching any series at the moment, and other than your comments and videos, I don’t know much of what’s going on), but I hadn’t thought about his age at all. He’s only a few months younger than my mother.

Q3) Theresa May

Q4) Elizabeth 1st

Q5) Knives (It occurs to me that short knives would be easier to disguise...)
Well, studios did (and still do) terrible things to movies, especially those of directors with a non-standard vision.
Good news on the washing machine front.
Here it is boiling hot as well, and on Friday we have an orange warning for temperature, although it is supposed to be worse at the place where we used to go in the summer (my father's birth hamlet). There it cooled at night, but...
Yes, a thunderstorm would be nice, although here there have been quite a few fires due to lightning (even dry lighting, an interesting concept).
