Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-7-2022 — Voyage Voyage.

8th July, 2022.

Right …

This afternoon sees me having a meeting: with my Job Centre work coach.

A new case worker, in other words.

In person: after many months of phone meetings.

I’m … not especially worried.

If it is who I think it is, the chap seems capable enough.

Oh, JUST in case you’re on YouTube … ?

My nephew’s done another video!

Would you mind hitting the Like button, please?

If he gets twenty Likes, he does ANOTHER BitLife video!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        8th July, 1497, saw an expedition led by Vasco da Gama set off on the first voyage from Europe.   To where: Africa, India or China?

Q2)        The voyage left from which country: Spain, Portugal or Italy?

Q3)        The voyage went from which city: Barcelona, Lisbon, or Ravenna?

Q4)        The main ship of the fleet was the São what: Miguel, Rafael or Gabriel?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The voyage ended when it arrived in Calicut.   Calicut is also know as Kozhikode.   And as the city of what: herbs, spices or woods?
Yesterday’s answers are in today’s video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The Solomon Islands became independent: on 7th July, 1978.   From where: the UK, USA or UAE?
A1)        The UK.

Q2)        The youngest player to win a Wimbledon Singles title, did so on 7th July, 1985.   Which player: Emma Raducanu, Boris Becker or Arthur Ashe?
A2)        Boris Becker.

Q3)        7th July, 1959, saw Venus occult — go in front of — which star: Regulus, Aldebaran or Proxima Centauri?
A3)        Regulus.

Q4)        Emperor Shirakawa was born on 7th July, 1053.   Emperor Sutoku was born on 7th July, 1119.   Both were Emperors of where: China, Japan or Vietnam?
A4)        Japan.

Q5)        Finally … ?   7th July, 1907, saw the birth of writer, Robert A. Heinlein.   Which of his novels was filmed as 1997’s Starship Troopers?
A5)        Starship Troopers.   (The main character, Juan ‘Johnny’ Rico, was Filipino.   The movie version of the character?   Was played by white American actor, Casper van Dien.   The film was made some seven years after Heinlein’s death: he’s possibly spinning in his grave.)
Here’s a thought …
“This is widely considered a milestone in world history, as it marked the beginning of a sea-based phase of global multiculturalism.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Da Gama.
A song …

And a rhetorical question: where DOES La Roux get her hair ideas … ?

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

†        I’ll have to check out Tremors at some point, Olga!   But I always think Starship Troopers is a good example of how American and UK science fictions differ.   The monsters in it are Communists.   In Britain the monsters are all Nazis!
Oh, did you catch the Sky TV version of The Midwich Cuckoos, over there?   It’s good: but I’m not sure I was too pleased with the ending.   One of the kids survived.
Oh, he’s out of office: but there’s arguments about him staying as PM!   Oy!
I never played the setting that Vecna features in, Olga.   But friends who have tell me it’s Lich as in rich.   As in Lichfield, in other words.   Apparently, it’s an old word for a corpse!

Ha!   Donald would probably be trying to grab the steering wheel of the Mini Moke, Debbi!   Or complaining the election was rigged.   So no change, there, then.

As a thought for you, Olga, Debbi …

Shinzo Abe, former Japanese PM has died: as he was effectively assassinated.

My cynical first thought? Was “Boris thinks he’s got problems.”

Fingers crossed on the meeting today. Yes, I've already signed a petition to see if they will kick Boris out now rather than later. Who knows what he could do in the meantime?
I don't have Netflix, so I don't know if it's shown here, but I'll keep my eyes open for it. And, please, do watch Tremors. I adore it. (I am a fan of Kevin Bacon, but the whole movie is absolutely mad!)
