Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July, 2022

29th July, 2022.

Yeah: yesterday was a bit of a day.

For a start … ?

Actor, Bernard Cribbins died.

I remember him from many things.

Right Said Fred and Hole in the Ground were a hell of a lot of fun.

There were film appearances, TV appearances, the most Jackanory appearances by any one given performer.

Personally?   I remember seeing him as Tom Cambell in Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D, the second Dr Who movie.

I think the man’s biggest legacy?   Was providing the narration — and voicing every single character — in The Wombles.

The show was the only one at the time that talked about recycling stuff: at a time when no other show — with the possible exception of Blue Peter — did so.

Legacy doesn’t even start …

Yesterday … ?

I was up early: I had a Zoom meeting to attend, at ten, and wanted to make sure I’d done my usual stuff done, first.

I didn’t notice the yelling from up the road: at around 7:20ish.

There’s always someone having an argument, around here!

I also didn’t consciously notice the emergency ambulance, trauma team, and half a dozen police cars, turning up

Or know about them, until;
  • Someone asked what was happening on my street’s Facebook group.
  • At least three people contacted me — through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — to ask if I was ok, and what on Earth was happening!
Which is me all over!

At any rate?   A resident of Torville Court, the block next to mine, had been attacked: and seriously injured.

According to the Essex Live reports?   A 28 year old man had been arrested on charges of Actual Bodily Harm, and for assaulting one of the ambulance staff.

From other things I’ve been told?   And if the victim is who I think it is?   (Which seems likely, from descriptions I’ve been given.)

The victim is said to have all sorts of dodgy dealings.

And last got stabbed back in 2015.

I know no more than that: but will be keeping an eye peeled.

No one’s said anything about murder, as yet …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        29th July is National Thai Language Day.   The Thai script is written how: left to right or right to left?

Q2)        29th July is the feast day of Saint Lazarus of Bethany.   Which book of the New Testament is he in: Matthew, Mark or John?

Q3)        Clara Bow was born on 29th July, 1905.   She was known as what: the ‘It Girl’, ‘Why Girl’ or ‘What Girl’?

Q4)        29th July, 1916, saw the birth of guitarist, Charlie Christian.   He famously played for whom: Jimmy Durante, Benny Goodman or Glen Miller?

Q5)        Finally … ?   29th July, 1941, saw the birth of actor, David Warner.   In which 1976 film does he play a photographer call Keith Jennings?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        28th July is Independence Day in Peru.   Marking Peru’s Independence from where: Spain or Portugal?
A1)        Spain.

Q2)        Peru’s on which coast of South America: east or west?
A2)        West.

Q3)        What’s Peru’s capital city: La Paz, Lima or Montevideo?
A3)        Lima.

Q4)        A mountain range goes through Peru.   Which mountain range: the Andes, the Rockies or the Himalayas
A4)        The Andes.

Q5)        Finally … ?   That mountain range is home to the Peruvian Spectacled Bear.   The bear was the inspiration behind which children’s character?
A5)        Paddington: who is, after all, from Darkest Peru …
Here’s a thought …
“I highly recommend worrying.   It’s much more effective than dieting.”
William Powell, July 29, 1892 – March 5, 1984.
And a song: one that features Charlie Christian’s guitar work

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        It’s definitely sad, Olga.  Although I couldn’t shake the pie adverts he’d done, from my head.   It’s funny how these things go!
And I know what you mean about BIG bags of stuff.   I tend to buy that size sugar bags: they tend to last a long time!
Yeah, the timing went well for me … ish.   Getting interrupted by random stabbings, though … ?

        Hello, Mum!

It’s worth a watching, I think, Debbi: as is Picard!   I’m watching the next episode of that, tonight.   (About my only complaint with this season of Stranger Things?   Is simply the length of some of the episodes: some are touching feature film length, the seventy-five to one hundred and twenty minute mark.   I know it’s event TV … but … )

Q2) John

Q3) The It Girl

Q5) The Omen. That movie has a truly creepy soundtrack.
Yes, the mind has a way of bringing up things that are, sometimes, totally unsuitable to the feeling of the moment.
I saw your messages on Twitter. Let's hope it isn't even worse than it sounds like. I always wonder in what state those people must be to assault ambulance staff too. Drugs? Sometimes I guess it might be a case of wrong place/wrong time, but still, it is a hard enough job without having to put up with that kind of risk.
Wishing you a quieter day.
