Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 3rd July, 2022.

3rd July, 2022.

It’s officially official: I’ve had a late night.

Reviewing a recently watched episode of Star Trek Picard.

I think it was worth the effort, though: the Borg Queen, played by Annie Wersching, is in unnervingly Hannibal Lecter mode.

Oh … I had my washing machine, on Friday.

It worked … once.

Well, twice!   But … ?

It’s now dead, again!

I’ve got the engineer coming on Tuesday: the last day of warranty cover.

Quite what happens, after that?   If that repair doesn’t take?

I don’t know!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        3rd July is usually the start of the what days: cat days, dog days or snake days?

Q2)        3rd July is the feast day of Saint Germanus of Man.   The Isle of Man is in what: Irish Sea, English Channel or North Sea?

Q3)        3rd July is the feast day of Saint Thomas.   You’ll find the Saint Thomas Christians where: Ethiopia, India or North America?

Q4)        Clive Hornby dies on 3rd July, 2008.   He’d played Jack Sugden in which UK soap: EastEnders, Coronation Street or Emmerdale?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Sir Robert Rich was born on 3rd July, 1685.   What was the highest military rank he reached: Brigadier, Lieutenant General or Field Marshal?
Yesterday’s answers are in today’s video.

Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        2nd July is Flag Day in Curaçao.   The island’s in which sea: the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea or Bay of All Saints?
A1)        The Caribbean Sea.

Q2)        2nd July is the day of the Palio di Provenzano: one of two horse races held in Siena.   Siena is in which country: Italy, France or Germany?
A2)        Italy.

Q3)        2nd July, 1561, saw Emperor Menas defeat a revolt: in the tone of Emfraz.   Menas was emperor of where: Rome, Ethiopia or Japan?
A3)        Ethiopia.   (Emfraz is als called Enfraz, and Infraz.)

Q4)        2nd July, 1504, saw Bogdan 3rd become Voivode of Moldavia.   A voivode was a what: warlord, chef or prime minister?
A4)        Warlord.   (I’m told ‘Shogun’ can be translated the same way: all a more literal translation is ‘Commander-in-Chief of the Expeditionary Force Against the Barbarians.’   Japanese seems very economic.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   2nd July, 1937, saw Fred Noonan disappear of the Pacific.   He was the navigator for the flight.   Who was the pilot: Amy Johnson, Amelia Earhart or Harriet Quimby?
A5)        Amelia Earhart.
Here’s a thought …
“Logic may indeed be unshakeable, but it cannot withstand a man who is determined to live.”
The Trial, Franz Kafka, 3 July 1883 – 3 June 1924.
And a song: one sung by Judith Durham …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

The quizmaster’s decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Oh, dear … the washing machine!   What can I tell you, Olga?   Except that the repair man’s due back on Tuesday.
I’ll keep my finger crossed for you, as well.   But isn’t the play button (▶️) easy to miss?

It’s interesting stuff, Debbi, I know that.   It’s also very watchable.   (Practically all of the main cast seem to have their hair in waves.   Apart from Patrick Stewart!)

Good luck with the washing machine, but it seems cutting it very fine indeed. One wonders if it shouldn't be covered if the problem started before the guarantee died anyway, but... I'm sure there are rules about that.
It was the hold button, which is on the side rather than on top with the rest, that was the problem. In theory, if you toggle that one to one side or the other, the recorder doesn't work unless you keep holding it. I am sure I didn't move it, at least not intentionally, but because I was taking pictures, recording, and taking the equipment in and out of the bag, I guess it might have caught on something. The weird thing is that I thought it might have been that and toggled it to a different position (of course, there is no way to remember how it is supposed to be, as it is not that evident. No on and off position), but it still wouldn't turn. But I sent a message to my boss and the told me he was sure it the phone recording would work, in any case. He was also doing some recordings and met the same guy who helped me with the equipment afterwards, so he was already aware of it by the time he saw my message.
We have used the phone before, but mostly to connect live when we cover events at the festa major... (Not long to go now, although COVID numbers are going up again).

He might have wavy hair. We just don't see it. :)

I'm speaking of the hair he keeps in his closet, of course. A family hairloom! :)
