Sunday 22 March 2020

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-3-2020: Sunday in the Park

22nd March, 2020.

It’s officially official: the world’s a mess.

Or, at least, my hair is.

I think I need a haircut.

We’ll have to see how the budget — and the coronavirus — goes, this month.

One thing I do know … ?

Is that I had dinner, last night.

Complete with some sweet potatoes, rather than regular potatoes: they’re better for those of us with diabetes, I’m told.

I have a burger, with peas, and — instead of all potatoes — a mix of regular and sweet potatoes.

That went well: the ‘replacements’ were definitely sweeter but cooked just as well.

I’ll tell you one thing, though.

Sweet potatoes — at least, these ones — weren’t half difficult to chop up.

If you have a spare chainsaw, I’d appreciate it!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 22nd March, 2020, is a Sunday.   When was the last time 22rd March was a Sunday?
Q2) ISO 8601 — the international standards covering dates, and time — defines Sunday as what: the fifth, sixth or seventh day of the week?
Q3) Which Roman Emperor declared Sunday to be a day of rest: Claudius 1st, Constantine 1st or Augustus?
Q4) Members of which religion refer to Sunday as ‘the Sabbath’?
Q5) Some members of that religion mark the Sabbath on which day?
Q6) Söndag is the name for Sunday … in which European language?
Q7) BBC Radio 1 has usually broadcast what on Sunday: a sermon, the Chart Show or the Rock show?
Q8) Bloody Sunday took place in Northern Ireland, in 1973: when Paratroopers shot protestors.   Protestors in which city?
Q9) Sunday is a 2019 song by whom?
Q10) Finally … ?   The News of the World, The Sunday Times and the Mail on Sunday are all Sunday … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 21st March is World Down Syndrome Day.   The condition is caused by an extra what: chromosome, gene or protein?
Q2) 21st March is International Colour Day.   How do you spell the word, colour: in Australian English?
Q3) 21st March is ALSO the International Day of Forest.   What’s the name of the large tropical forest in South America?
A3) The Amazon: also known as Amazonia.
Q4) World Poetry Day is marked on 21st March.   Who’s the UK’s current Poet Laureate?
Q5) Finally … ?   21st March is also the International Day for The Elimination of what?
A5) International Day for The Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
Here’s a thought …
“The life of the wealthy is one long Sunday.”
Georg Büchner.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s starting to get just as hairy, here, Olga‡: Mother’s Day’s definitely off, unfortunately.   Normally, I’d have dinner at Mum: but today … ?   Well … (My old industry’s having it rough.   All the pubs and restaurants in town are shut, and most pub quiz masters are out of jobs.   A lot are migrating to YouTube.)

†        A tutorial would be lovely, Debbi‡!   Part of the trouble is knowing what to do, before I do it!

‡        Has either of you got a spare chainsaw?   Or a meat cleaver?   Those sweet potatoes are really tough to cut!

Good luck with the diet! I do have quite a few good knives (I always hold on to those, but a bit difficult to send it over right now. Do take care. Here the whole of the economy is collapsing, but there's not much anybody can do. In theory, the government will withhold taxes, help companies and individuals, but people who work for themselves or small businesses are going to have a tough time getting over it. personally, I don't know if the people who rent my flat will be able to pay (it depends on what kind of work they do) but things might get complicated there either. On the other hand, if I ever complete the course, as some bits require us to be personally there, it seems that's there's plenty of work, and the language school where I am studying are interested in Spanish teachers as well, for what they've told me, so one never knows...
