Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th June, 2021.

19th June, 2021.

Yes: it’s true.

I had the washing machine engineers out, yesterday.

From a local company called Mackfields, so you know.

Their engineers — two of them, I should add — turned up early: and immediately diagnosed the issue.

It’s dead!

Its a dead washing machine: bereft of life, it rests in peace!

They’re coming back on Thursday, at three, to replace it.

Hopefully?

The new one will last a few years …

Oh, just as a thought … ?

I managed to catch the indie Brit flick, In Fabric, last night.

It’s both impressive: and strange.

And has one hell of a soundtrack … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†, Debbi‡ and Edith^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Debbi and Mum scoring five out of five, and Edith on three.

The day also sawTrevor leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        19th June, 1943, saw the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles temporarily merged for a season: as a result of player shortages during WW2.   The two teams played what: American Football, Baseball or Basketball?

Q2)        Aung San Suu Kyi was born on 19th June, 1945.   She’s a major political figure in which Asian nation: Myanmar, Thailand or Cambodia … ?

Q3)        19th June is World Sickle Cell Day.   Sickle Cell’s caused by faulty what: red blood cells, white blood cells or blood plasma?

Q4)        19th June, 1991, saw the last Soviet troops leave where: Afghanistan, Hungary or Romania?

Q5)        Finally … ?   19th June, 2018, saw the ten millionth US what, issued: patent, army uniform or driving license?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        A French army was defeated at the Battle of Waterloo, on 18th June of which year: 1814, 1815 or 1816?
A1)        1815.

Q2)        Who led the French army: Toussaint L’Overture, Napoléon Bonaparte or Jean Lafitte?
A2)        Napoléon Bonaparte.

Q3)        Waterloo is in which country: Belgium, Estonia or Luxembourg?
A3)        Belgium.   (It was part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands at the time)

Q4)        The French were defeated by the Seventh Coalition.   A coalition that included British and Prussia forces. Who led the Prussians: Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, Maximilien von Schnell or Ludwig van Klümpf?
A4)        Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.   (I spelt Maximilien von Schell’s name wrong.   If you know your ’Allo, ’Allo, you’ll know van Klümpf painted the Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies, hidden in the big knakwürst.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Who led the British forces at the Battle of Waterloo?
A5)        Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington.
Here’s a thought …
“With our backs to the wall, and believing in the justice of our cause, each one of us must fight on to the end.”
Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig (19 June 1861 – 29 January 1928.)
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        That’s why I contacted Pier about the keys, Olga.   Sometimes, the only way to get things moving is to talk to the press.
(Oh, I mentioned In Fabric, earlier: and will have a review up, tonight.   I don’t know if Giallo movies are up your street, Olga, but I think this is worth watching!)

†        Hello, Mum!   (Yes, I knew Belgium was part of the Netherlands, at the time: I had to make sure to word the question carefully.)

‡        Well … he knows how to fix phones lines, Debbi.   At least, a Glen Campbell does!   (Did I mention the vacation I and an ex-girlfriend took in Great Yarmouth?   The cod we had with the cod and chips, there, was huge!)

^        It’s on Wednesday, Edith: hopefully, it’ll go well!   Oh, yesterday’s fifth answer was the Duke of Wellington: he was a famous general.   (There’s an old TV series called Sharpe, that feature the Duke: played by David Troughton, son of Patrick Troughton, the Second Doctor.   David also plays King Peladon in The Curse of Peladon.)

Fingers crossed that the new washing machine is a keeper!
I've watched my fair shared of Giallo films, particularly Dario Argento's (some Mario Bava's as well) when I was younger, although I don't think I've watched any new ones for ages, and when I've tried to watch some of the old ones recently they feel a bit over the top. (I don't mind gore and violence, but sometimes it feels a bit cheesy. I guess I'm getting older). In any case, the music is quite spectacular. I'll keep it in mind.
