Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th March, 2020.

12th March, 2020

Remember, a few days ago, now, that I’d been provisionally diagnosed with diabetes?

And need to arrange a second, confirmatory, blood test: for tomorrow?

I had the official call from my GP, last night: I don’t need the blood tests.

She’s confirmed I’ve got diabetes: and has arranged for a course of Metformin for me.

Apparently?   It’s not recommend for those who drink a lot.

Not an issue for me.

Oh, and it can cause diarrhoea.

That’s got an upside: I needed to lose weight …

Oh, something that cropped up in the news, today?

Apparently, in a recent case against a former local politician — for possession of indecent images of children — the police made a bit of a cockup … if you’ll excuse the phrase.

Seemingly?

West Yorkshire Police had a hard drive of the offender’s — complete with tons of indecent images — locked up in a safe for some fourteen years.

And didn’t hand it in until after the offender — a former Mayor of Leeds — was gaoled in 2017.

I’m very aware I’m not infallible: as are you, him, her, the police, and everyone else.

But that … ?

Seems a bit of a big one …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers:  scoring five out of five in the process.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 12th March is World Day Against Cyber … what? Bullying, Censorship or Crime?
Q2) 12th March is also the generally accepted date for what: the Aztec New Year, Chinese New Year or Greek New Year?
Q3) 12th March, 1946, saw the birth of Liza Minelli.   She played Minnie in which 1964 TV series?
Q4) The Australian capital was named: on 12th March, 1913.   What IS Australia’s capital?
Q5) The House of Commons rejected a revised bill by 149 votes: on 12th March, 2019.   A bill to do what: legalise cannabis, leave the EU or set up a Parliamentary Watchdog?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 11th March, 1955, saw the death of scientist, Alexander Fleming.   Fleming was responsible for the discovery of what: penicillin, DNA or the polio vaccine?
Q2) 11th March, 1963, saw the birth of actress, Alex Kingston.   She train at which regal drama school?
A2) The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art: also called RADA.   (Fellow Dr Who girl, Louise Jameson — Leela — is also a RADA graduate.)
Q3) Britain’s first daily newspaper, The Daily Courant, launched on 11th March, 1702: on Fleet Bridge, in London.   The paper was next to which pub?
A3) The King’s Arms.   (I’ve met a few journalists in my time.   They all seem to spend time in pubs.   They’re possibly all honouring their journalistic heritage …)
Q4) Which Hollywood director was charged with rape: on 11th March, 1977?
Q5) Finally … ?   11th March, 1989, saw the birth of the late Anton Yelchin.   What was the last feature film — feature film, rather than short, or documentary — released during Yelchin’s lifetime?
A5) Green Room.   (Star Trek Beyond and Porto were released a few weeks after his death.)
Here’s a thought …
“If I give you romantic advice, don’t take it.   Look what’s happening to me.”
Liza Minelli, 12th March, 1946.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Croupier, Croupier … wasn’t that the Clive Owen film, Debbi, or am I thinking of something else?   No, it’s Croupier, I checked the Wikipedia entry.   I might have to look that up …

Take care, Paul. I know a few people who take Metformin and didn't get any side-effects, so fingers crossed! Here the situation is getting interesting. They've decided to close all schools and that includes language schools, so after tomorrow we won't be able to attend to continue with the course. We've reached the half point, but we need to complete the teaching part (we have taught 3 hours so far, and we need to teach another 3 to a different group of students). They will tell us tomorrow what to do and were talking to Cambridge to see what could be done, as they are planning on continuing the classes online, but that will not sort the issue with the classes. It's complicated, because most of the students have come from abroad and some of them were going to leave immediately after the course, or shortly after, so although they are saying, at the moment, that the closing of the schools will only be for two weeks, some people won't be able to stay around after that. And, of course, there are also people who can't go back home because they won't allow flights in. A bloody mess, to say the least.
So, for the time being I'll still be busy, but from home, and I'm not sure how we'll manage to complete the thing (in theory, if we do everything else, we'd only have the lessons to teach aftewards, but if that would work, I'm not sure, although the course organiser was saying they'd had the same situation with schools and students in Cambridge, so we shall see. The course is pretty good, I must say, but there's no much they can do about the situation.
I'm sure you'll feel much better once the sugar is under control.
