Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24-3-2020: Óscar Romero

24th March, 2020.

It’s officially the case: since last night, the UK is in lockdown, because of the Corona virus.

We can’t go out: unless we’re going shopping, taking exercise, getting medication or travelling to essential work.

Or visit family members, if they don’t live with us.

I can understand it.

I can appreciate it.

I can …

No, scrub that: I was going to say ‘I can approve of it.’

I don’t.

In one sense, it’s the sort of behaviour a fascist government would love.

And a right wing love to order in normal circumstances.

These aren’t normal, by a long shot.

Like I say, I can understand why it’s being done.

That does not mean I have to like it, or the potential precedent it sets.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: scoring five out of five in the process.

The day also saw Olga† looking in to say ‘¡Ola!’

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q2) Romero was a what: Bishop, Archbishop or Cardinal?
Q3) More to the point he was a what … of where: La Unión, San Miguel or San Salvador?
Q4) Romero was killed on the orders — allegedly — of Roberto D’Aubuisson: a far right member of their county’s government.    Which country’s government?
Q5) Finally … ?   Romero was canonised in 2018: by which pope?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Handel’s Messiah debuted in London: on 23rd March, 1743.   At what’s now the what?
A1) The Royal Opera House: also known as Covent Garden.
Q2) 23rd March is the Day of the Sea.   In which South American country?
A2) The incredibly landlocked Bolivia.
Q3) 23rd March, 1983, saw the birth of which runner … ?
A3) Mo Farah.
Q4) 23rd March, 1972, saw the birth of boxer, Joe Calzaghe.   Which country of the UK is he from … ?
A4) Wales.
Q5) Waltham Abbey was surrendered to the king on 23rd March, 1540: during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.   Which King was it handed to?
A5) Henry 8th.
Here’s a thought …
“You say that you are Christian. If you are really Christian, please stop sending military aid to the military here, because they use it only to kill my people.”
Óscar Romero.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It does help, doesn’t it, Debbi?

†        We never do, do we Olga?   If nothing else, it sounds like you’ll be able to finish the course!   (And that’s very good news about El Ministerio del Tiempo!   We are going to H?AVE to persuade Debbi to watch it!)

Wow! Sounds like you're not even supposed to take a walk outside. So far, we've escaped that extreme. Hopefully, people won't be stupid and will take precautions, so the government doesn't HAVE to act to protect those too dumb to figure out there really is a problem.

I'm trying to set up a group reading online. That would be cool to do with other authors! :)

1. 1980
2. Archbishop
3. native of San Miguel
