Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 17-9-2022 — M*A*S*H

17th September, 2022.

Yep: I’ve officially got my nephew over, later.

And just enough cash to get a bagel or two, for lunch.

Assuming I can persuade Jude it’s a good idea, in between video edits!

Heigh Ho!

Oh, JUST so everyone knows?

I watch the first episode of Star Trek Strange New Worlds, last night.

I’ll have my written review up, tonight: but it’s very watchable.

I’ve also pencilled in watching the Second Doctor story, The Abominable Snowmen, for some time during the week.

That should be interesting.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The first episode of M*A*S*H aired: on 17th September.   On which US channel: CBS, NBC or Fox?

Q2)        It first aired in which year of the 1970s?

Q3)        The series was about a Mobile Army Surgical what?

Q4)        The M*A*S*H unit in the series had which number: 4077, 90210 or 5-0?

Q5)        The series was set during which war: the Korean War, Vietnam War or Spanish Civil War?

Q6)        M*A*S*H was based on a film of the same name.   A film released in which year of the 1970s?

Q7)        Hawkeye Pierce and Trapper John, were played by Alan Alda and Wayne Rogers.   Both characters had nicknames inspired by a famous American novel.   Which American novel: The Last of the Mohicans, Moby Dick or Adventures of Huckleberry Finn?

Q8)        Head nurse, Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan, was played by Loretta Swit.   Swit played Christine Cagney in the pilot episode of which detective show?

Q9)        Colonel Sherman T. Potter was the unit commander for the latter part of the series: and played by Harry Morgan.   Harry Morgan played Officer Bill Gannon in which TV series: CSI: Miami, Hawaii 5-0 or Dragnet?

Q10)        Finally … ?   The show’s last episode, Goodbye, Farewell and Amen, aired in which year of the 1980s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Sir Clive Sinclair died: on 16th September, 2021.   In which year of the 1940s was he born?
A1)        1940.

Q2)        1972 saw Clive’s first company released the Sinclair Executive.   What was the Sinclair Executive: a computer, calculator or electric bike?
A2)        A calculator.

Q3)        Clive’s Sinclair Research Ltd released what was the UK’s cheapest home computer: in 1980.   What was that computer called?
A3)        The ZX80.        (The thing retailed for £99.95: and had a whole kilobyte of RAM! Much like a modern games console, you connected it to a TV.)

Q4)        Clive’s electric tricycle flopped.   What was it called: the A1, B3 or C5?
A4)        The C5.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Many British programmers learnt to programme on a colourful Sinclair computer released in 1982.   What was that computer: the ZX81, the ZX Spectrum or the QL?
A5)        The ZX Spectrum.   (I still have fond memories of a Spectrum game called Atic Atac. You can find details about the ZX81, here, and the QL, here.   As a final thought?   I wrote a Tunnels and Trolls character generator, many years ago: one I since re-wrote in AppleScript.)
Here’s a quote …
[Trapper drives a golf ball, which sets off an explosion in the mine field]
Army Capt.‘Trapper John’ McIntyre: Fore!
[Radar stops in mid-football practice to look out over the hills]
Cpl. Walter ‘Radar’ O’Reilly: Here they come!
Capt. ‘Spearchucker’ Jones: I don’t hear nothin'.
Cpl. Walter ‘Radar’ O’Reilly: Wait for it.
The opening lines of the first episode.
And a mournful song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum: see you at 11.30.

Glad to be able to help, Olga.   You’d possibly need to use a VPN, if you wanted to catch any BBC content.   But that’s always been too much of a faff for me!   (It sounds like the Kindle could do with updating.)
I think that’s where Wikipedia’s donations go: mostly on the professional staff that do half a ton of the work.

Unfortunately, Debbi: the one you have was commercially successful.   The C5 stiffed!

Have fun with Jude. The fair was great. It's incredible what things these miniaturists can do. Once the article is up I'll share the link with you, so you can have a look at the pictures.
