Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th September, 2022

5th September, 2022.

Yep: it’s now, officially a new week.

It’s Monday, after all.   What were we expecting?

At any rate, it also means I’ll be hosting my nephew, this afternoon.

Videos will no doubt be posted.

Hopefully?

He’ll have a good afternoon: he starts senior school, on Wednesday, and is a little nervous.

~≈👨🏼‍🏫≈~

It’s also Monday: the day when the Conservatives announce who their new leader is.

Whoever it is … ?   Will become the new Prime Minister.

There is, inevitable, a lot of talk about the newcomers plans.

The favourite, Liz Truss?

Has gone on the record to say she ‘doesn’t believe in handouts.’

She might need to modify that view.

There’s going to be a lot of people who need one.

~≈💷≈~

I might have to spend time, tomorrow night: listening to a radio show.

As File on 4 is doing an interesting sounding piece on the UK’s judicial system.

Or, at least, the judicial system’s IT system.

It seems it’s been misbehaving: handing out too long a sentence in some cases, reducing some in others.

It sounds like the Post Office scandal, all over again.

With a twist.

It could see some violent offenders released early.

~≈⚖️≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q5)        Finally … ?   John Wisden was born on 5th September, 1826.   His Almanack is about what: baseball, cricket or polo?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1)        Dining clubs.

Q2)        Google was founded on 4th September, 1998.   It’s now a subsidiary of a company called what: Alphabet, Hieroglyph or Syllabary?
A2)        Alphabet.

Q3)        Who became the Roman Catholic Church’s longest lived pope, on 4th September, 2020: John Paul 1st, John Paul 2nd, Benedict 16th or Francis?

Here’s a thought …
“I knew then and I know now that, when it comes to justice, there is no easy way to get it.   You can’t sugarcoat it, You have to take a stand and say, ‘This is not right.’”
Claudette Colman, born September 5, 1939.
And a song …

That’s what you call a walking bassline

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I have to admit, Olga, I love a saint with a silly patronage.   I can throw in some really odd characters^!
But yes, I met my case worker: he’s a nice chap.   He updated the journal on the spot, so hopefully, that’ll help.
Discounted rail tickets sounds like a good move.   As does reducing VAT on electricity.   I don’t know if the new PM will approve it, though, but both could play well, here.   We’ll have to see what happens, I think.
If I’ve understood it?   The higher priced fuel setting the price for everything else sets the profit margin.   It’s what earns utility companies their money.

        Hello, Mum!

Yeah … my pile’s getting huge, Debbi.   And it that’s not an ambiguous statement, I’m 6’2”.

^        Saint Guinefort’s berserk: he’s a greyhound!

Good luck with whoever ends up being the PM, although none of the options sound too good, to be honest. Let's see what s/he does. And have fun with your nephew. It's always exciting to go back to school, and nerve-wracking. I'm sure he'll be fine.
