Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19-9-2022 — Talk Like A Pirate Day

19th September, 2022.

It’s the 19th September, 2022.

And?

And it’s Talk Like A Pirate Day.

A day that’s incredibly light hearted.

At least, it’s meant to be.

As ever, I’ve got the radio on and tuned to BBC Radio Four.

And am listening to the coverage of Elizabeth 2nd’s funeral.

The Today* show’s doing it’s usually good job, I should add.

Including present a very nice piece from Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau: who first met the Queen when he was seven, during his father’s term as PM.

At any rate … ?

This year’s Talk Like A Pirate Day is going to be a sad one.

It’s the only time I’ve had to include a message about a State Funeral to the relevant Teaser video …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        19th September is Talk Like a Pirate Day: first marked in 1995.   Pirates usually travel by what: land, sea or air?

Q2)        Zheng Yi Sao was a pirate who operated from 1801 to 1810.   Where: the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea or the Gulf of Thailand?

Q3)        Radio Caroline, Laser 558 and the Dread Broadcasting Company, were pirate what?

Q4)        Music released without official consent can be described as pirated.   It can also be referred to as what: bootleg, bampot or barnacles?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Pirate City Rollers is a New Zealand sports league.   In which sport: football, roller derby or ice hockey?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th September, 1997, saw Ted Turner of CNN, donate a billion dollars to what: the UN, the Democrats or Amnesty?
A1)        The UN.

Q2)        Officer J. D. Tippit was born on 18th September, 1924.   He was shot and killed on 22nd November, 1963. By whom: Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby or Paul Gotti?
A2)        Lee Harvey Oswald.

Q3)        18th September is the feast day of Saint Joseph of Cupertino.   He’s the patron saint of what: physicists, astronauts or blacksmiths?
A3)        Astronauts.   He’s also the patron saint of aviation: I’m assuming that’s why he bagged astronauts.

Q4)        18th September is the first of two Fiestas Patrias.   Where: Chile, French Guiana or Paraguay?
A4)        Chile.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Get Smart debuted on 18th September, 1965.   The main character, Max Smart, was also known as what: Number 6, Agent 86 or Mother?
A5)        Agent 86.
Here’s a thought …
“The Great Pirates realised that the only people who could possibly contrive to displace them were the truly bright people.”
Operating Manuel for Spaceship Earth, by Buckminster Fuller.
And some music …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        The show’s airing a think piece from writer, Frank Cottrell Boyce: the man who wrote the Paddington sketch for the Platinum Jubilee.   He references both Dr Who, and the late Terry Pratchett.   I was pleased to hear those, sad though they were.

Get Smart’s theme tune was very catchy, Olgaª: I’ve got it ear worming through my head … along side the tune Debbi played us, yesterday!
Photographing miniatures is always tricky, I think.   How Games Workshop do it, I don’t know.   Mind you, they don’t go to 1/2000: usually between 1/12th and 1/60th, 25mm to 5mm, if I’ve got the figures right.
I couldn’t tell you how Charles is going to go, Olga.   I get the impression he’s been meeting as many world leaders as he can, while he can: and turning on the royal charm.  He’s got big shoes to fill.
Given the amount of dignitaries coming to the funeral, countries that want to remove the monarchy as head of state are going to have a short time to discuss things.   But I know the Jamaican PM, and Governor General, are coming: the Jamaican PM is the chap who told Prince William the country’s planning to become a republic.   Whether they’ll stay in the Commonwealth … ?   I don’t know!

        Hello, Mum!

^        Yep: Mother was in The Avengers, Debbiª.   Le Carré uses the term in his Smiley novels, as well: they’re the PAs to senior officers.
Like the tune, there, Debbi: but I’ve now got Roadrunner banging through my head!

ª        Would you all mind giving today’s Teaser video a look, please?   I had to put some last minute work in!

Yes, big shoes to fill and all that. Here they are showing the funeral live as well. Mind you, they were talking yesterday on the news to some people who were saying it was all a bit too much, and the money could have been put to better use. I am sure we can all come up with a few suggestions.
Some doctors were saying they could have had the funeral on a Saturday and spared some pain and inconvenience to everybody but...
