Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20-9-2022: The QE2

20th September, 2022.

Yes: the late Queen’s funeral is now done.

And life — for those of us outside the Royal family? — goes on.

I watched it on TV.

After all, the last state funeral the UK held was Winston Churchill’s: back in the 1960s.

So it was something worth watching: a national event that happens rarely.

Thankfully.

Personally?

And equally as thankfully?

I’m glad it’s over: and that life goes on.

These things are an endurance test.

But?

I think the expression on Charles’ face, on the King’s face?

Isn’t going to be an easy one to forget …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

The day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Queen Elizabeth 2 was launched: on 20th September, 1967.   By whom: Elizabeth 2nd, Charles 3rd or Princess Anne?

Q2)        The ship is a what: cruise liner, battleship or aircraft carrier?

Q3)        The ship was originally built for whom: the Royal Navy, US Navy or the Cunard line?

Q4)        The ship was built in shipyard where: Belfast, Clydebank or Rotherhithe?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The ship is now a floating hotel.   Where: Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Sharjah?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th September is Talk Like a Pirate Day: first marked in 1995.   Pirates usually travel by what: land, sea or air?
A1)        Sea.

Q2)        Zheng Yi Sao was a pirate who operated from 1801 to 1810.   Where: the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea or the Gulf of Thailand?
A2)        The South China Sea.

Q3)        Radio Caroline, Laser 558 and the Dread Broadcasting Company, were pirate what?
A3)        Pirate radio stations.

Q4)        Music released without official consent can be described as pirated.   It can also be referred to as what: bootleg, bampot or barnacles?
A4)        Bootleg.   Barnacles can be found on ships. Bampot is an old Scottish term for an idiot.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Pirate City Rollers is a New Zealand sports league.   In which sport: football, roller derby or ice hockey?
A5)        Roller derby.
Here’s a thought …
“Queen Elizabeth 2 was designed for the transatlantic service from her home port of Southampton, UK to New York, United States and was named after the earlier Cunard liner RMS Queen Elizabeth.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the QE2.
And a tune …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I’ll be honest, Olga: I think the reason it was a Monday is so it could be a bank holiday.   They’ve had the legal framework for those for years.   And I get the impression that — had it been a Saturday? — a lot of people would have stayed away from work.
Yes: the money could well have been spent on other things.   Thankfully, these things are once in a life time events: the last state funeral was Churchill’s.   (That was on a Saturday.   The cranes along the Thames lowered their jibs: there’s been some controversy about that.)

        Hello, Mum!

I try and make sure of it, Debbi!   :D
Drat!   I’ve still got Roadrunner — and Legs and Co — banging around my head!

^        Cheers, Trevor, I got it corrected …
