Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th September, 2022

12th September, 2022.

Yes: I’m expecting an — ha! — affordable delivery, today.

I’ve got the Patrick Troughton Second Doctor story, The Abominable Snowmen, on route from Amazon.

It’s one of the lost serials.

And one that’s been reconstructed.

Thanks to some clever animation: and audio captured by fans when the shows were originally broadcast in the 1960s.

It should be an interesting watch, and interesting set of reviews …

And possibly an interesting unboxing video.

~≈⛄️≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

They day also saw Trevor^ leaving us a message.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Elizabeth Barrett eloped to Italy: on 12th September, 1846.   With whom: Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Wordsworth or Robert Browning?

Q2)        The African city of Salisbury was founded on 12th September, 1890.   Now the capital of Zimbabwe, the city is now called what: Harare, Kadoma or Mutare?

Q3)        Southern Rhodesia was annexed by the UK: on 12th September, 1923.   It’s now called what: Zimbabwe, Zambia or Mozambique?

Q4)        In a football match on 12th September, 1885, Arbroath beat Bon Accord: by a record margin.      Arbroath won by how much: 48-0, 36-0 or 24-0?

Q5)        Finally … ?   12th September, 1997, saw Scotland vote for what: Independence, Brexit or a devolved parliament?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        11th September is the National Day of Catalonia.   Spell Catalonia … in Catalan.
A1)        Catalunya.

Q2)        Catalonia is in the north-east part of where: Spain, France or Germany?
A2)        Spain.

Q3)        Catalan is an official language in Catalonia.   And where else: Andorra, Monaco or Vatican City?
A3)        Andorra.

Q4)        What’s Catalonia’s capital: Abrera, Barcelona or Camarasa?
A4)        Barcelona.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Alella, Costas del Segre and Empordà, are Catalan what: wine regions, cakes or breweries?
A5)        Wine regions.   (I’m also told that the majority of Cava is made and bottled in Catalonia.)
Here’s a thought …
“We shall never sheathe the sword, which we have not lightly drawn …”
H. H. Asquith, 12 September 1852 – 15 February 1928.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Yeah, sorry about that, Olga!   That’s me getting the left and right hand ends of the map mixed up!   Thanks for letting me know.
It sounds like Isabel Ayuso is … well, have you heard the phrase ‘you’ve got a right one, there.’?   You’ve got a right one, there!   I could understand King Felipe might order palace flags at half mast — he and the Queen are/were both related to Queen Victoria — and possibly the central government doing the same.   But a city leader ordering mourning?   That definitely sounds odd.   The most I’d expect her to do is go to the British Embassy, and sign the Book of Condolence.
Whatever happens?   I think we’re all hoping it works out well!

        Hello, Mum.

It’s not the first time it’s been suggested, Debbi!
Oh, did I mention I’ve got The Abominable Snowmen on order?   It could be interesting to see: it’s been missing for years,   Oh, the chap that plays Edward Travers, the Yeti hunter, is played by a chap called Jack Watling.   Better known Deborah Watling’s, Victoria’s, Dad.

^        Diana’s funeral was certainly strange, Trevor.   I know Mike — my boss at the Essex Arms — might has got on with Penny.   It took a lot persuading to get him to show the little he did.   The day of her death was even odder: we had a modelling agency doing a photo shoot in the back bar.

Q1) Robert Browning

Q2) Harare

Q3) Zimbabwe

Q4) 36-0 (Wow! Perhaps the other team was asleep or they kicked all of their players out. Even when I played football recently we didn’t do that badly, and we’d never played together before, and some of us hadn’t played at all).

Q5) A devolved parliament
Yes, to the cava comment. Oh, Ayuso is not the city mayor, it is the president of the Community of Madrid (the equivalent of the president or whatever of Catalonia). Yes, Madrid is supposed to be an autonomous community. Go figure! But, anyhow, she is a caution. Saying that, the actual mayor of Madrid has also said some "interesting" things recently and got historical events terribly wrong. (Like talking about Madrid being the capital when the circumnavigation of the globe by Magallanes and Elcano was completed, of course, the 500 anniversary was on the 6th of September. At that time, in 1522, Toledo was the capital of Spain (if Spain could even be considered Spain, but that is a different matter.
