Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th June, 2023.

19th June, 2023.

Right … it’s Monday …

And?

I’m supposed to be at my usual Monday morning weight management class.

And want to look into the Job Centre: to chase down a cancelled meeting.

And may need to head for my GPs: as a result of heading for the Job Centre.

All that … whilst staying indoors to let the Gas Safety Inspector in … !

Heigh ho!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga scoring five out of five, and Debbi and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        19th June is Laguna Day. In one specific province of which nation: Taiwan, the Philippines or Vanuatu?

Q2)        The original Nicene Creed was adopted at the First Council of Nicaea: which opened on 19th June, AD325.   The Creed is a major part of which religion: Judaism, Islam or Christianity?

Q3)        Boston’s King’s Chapel adopted a revised prayer book: on 19th June, 1785.   The revised book doesn’t include what: the Nicene Creed, a Communion service or the Lord’s Prayer?

Q4)        19th June is the feast day of Saint Juliana Falconieri.   She’s the patron saint of whom: sick people, sailors or snakes?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Richard John Bingham was found guilty of murder, by an inquest Jury: on 19th June, 1975.   Bingham was better known as Lord … who?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th June is Sustainable Gastronomy Day.   According to whom: the EU, UN or OAU?
A1)        The UN.
Q2)        18th June is the UN’s International Day for Countering what: Hate Speech, Sexism or Slavery?
A2)        Hate Speech.

Q3)        18th June, 1983, saw Sally Ride become the USA’s first female astronaut: when she went into space on which Space Shuttle?
A3)        The Challenger.   (I know it’s one HELL of an achievement for her: but I’ve get an earworm every time someone mentions her!)
Q4)        The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was launched: on 18th June, 2009.   By whom: NASA, the ESA or Roscosmos?
A4)        NASA.

Q5)        Finally … ?   18th June, 1901, saw the birth of Anastasia Romanova: youngest daughter of Nicholas 2nd of Russia.   Anastasia was a grand … what?
A5)        Grand Duchess.
Here’s a thought …
“I was just a blubbering mess.   We knew we had to make this an amazing educational storyline.”
Millie Gibson, born 19 June 2004, speaking of her part in Coronation Street.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

It sounds like these festivals are putting the word around, Olga: “Get the paella started, lads: Dr Núñez Miret is on route!”   :D
At any rate?   €2000 to €3000?   That averages out what, about £2100?   That’s certainly too much: especially if the social housing market in Spain’s anything like the UK’s.   My landlord’s allowed to charge the market rate for housing: but they get a lot of subsidies!   And I know for a fact a neighbour — in a different building — is paying a lot less than me.   I’m on £675 (~€790)for a one bedroom flat, as an example!   Considerable less!
Oh, are you having trouble with your site, Olga?   The https://www.authortranslatorolga.com one?   Only it’s offering speed reading tips …

That it does, Debbi!   Oh, technically?   The Tsar’s daughters were all Grand Duchesses.   I believe it’s an equivalent rank: but not exactly the same!

I hope you can manage to juggle all your appointments today, but it is how things tend to go. Some days, nothing happens, and others, everything at once.
Yes, I'm not the only one finding paellas everywhere, it seems. The new mayor of Barcelona (there was a huge mess with the election, as nobody got the majority and the eventual pacts to get this man elected were... dubious to say the least. We shall see...) also visited a neighbourhood nearby (the one I went to a few weeks ago), and they had a paella cooking competition, would you believe?
Oh, I thought I had told you, but I might have forgotten, as I had to change a lot of things and tell a few people. authortranslator olga is no longer live (at least not for me). I decided to go with a paying blog to try and see if I could make any money out of the blog (because otherwise you cannot use the free Wordpress blogs), but it never took off, and it was costing me over 600 euros or so per year (and, if you remember, I had quite a few technical problems with it), paying for the hosting, the name, Worpress org and the whole shebang... I'd been thinking about it for a while, and when the time to renew came, I just decided to close it. The thing is that some of the things I was paying for it had longer to run. In any case, if somebody else has bought the name... Good luck.
I went back to the free Wordpress blog, that I had never totally closed, and although the newer reviews won't be there (I had both of the blogs joined via jetpack, but that only meant a link would be posted on the old blog), there are still available on Goodreads, and, after all, nobody pays me for my reviews, so... Well, that's that.
Here is the link to my old/renewed blog
https://olganm.wordpress.com/
And about the rent... Of course, those are commercial flats for rent, not publicly owned, and although there is a new law fixing limits for the rent in certain areas, there are ways around it. Owners can offer their flats to the local government and they take care of the renting, and owners don't need to pay the local taxes, insurance, or anything in that case, but that means the rent tends to be much lower (and renters who benefit from that tend to be people who are up in the list of needs and have been waiting for a while). I don't know what the new mayor will do, because they were talking about housing a lot, but, although the is from the socialist party, we will see. (Isabel Ayuso, who is a bit like Trump in skirts, and fairly more attractive than him, she is the president of the Community of Madrid, [not the city, but something similar to a County in the UK, I guess], said, when they asked her what she thought about limiting the prices of the rent there, that she didn't think that was right. That the owners should be allowed to charge anything they wanted because the flats (or houses) were theirs, and the people that couldn't afford it would simply have to go elsewhere. And she won the majority there. So... (Only in the Basque Country and Catalonia the right didn't win the last local and autonomic elections. It is not looking good for the country in the next elections).
