20th June, 2023.
Right … I’ve possibly not mentioned it in the intro video …
But it’s officially raining in Brentwood.
Which is a bit of a relief, after a weeks worth of heatwave!
But that’s possibly beside the point!
As you may know?
I’m on benefits: and usually have to have have a meeting with Job centre staff, every two weeks.
That’s got changed: after I was found to have a ‘Limited Capacity for Work’.
And had been due to have a meeting — a now three monthly meeting — on the 29th June.
Except it got cancelled on me.
I was due a Gas Safety check, yesterday: so, after that and my weight management class, yesterday?
I popped into the Job Centre, to see what was happening.
According to the staff, there?
It’s going to be rearranged: and turned into a series of phone meetings!
I wish they’d mentioned that, when they cancelled it!

Let’s move on, shall we?
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?
Q1) British prisoners of war were held, on 20th June, 1756. In the Black Hole of where?Q2) Congress approved the USA’s Great Seal: on 20th June, 1782. What bird’s on the seal: a crane, eagle or duck?Q3) 20th June, 1893, saw who acquitted of murder: Peter Sutcliffe, Lizzie Borden or Ted Kaczynski?Q4) The Mali Federation gained its independence from France: on 19th June, 1960. Name either one of the Federation’s two successor states.Q5) Finally … ? 20th June, 1963, saw the USA and the USSR agree to a communications link between Moscow and Washington. That link’s informally known as the red … what?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 19th June is Laguna Day. In one specific province of which nation: Taiwan, the Philippines or Vanuatu?A1) The Philippines.Q2) The original Nicene Creed was adopted at the First Council of Nicaea: which open on 19th June, AD325. Here’s a thought …
“Celebrity is a dirty word. People are conditioned to hate you if you’re famous or in show business.”John Goodman, born June 20, 1952.
And a song …
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* I was wondering what had happened, there, Olga. By the looks of things, it’s been sold on. Although why a speed reading group’s bought it, I don’t know. Hopefully? Something will come of the switch.
The Community of Madrid … ? It sounds a lot like the GLA¶, the Greater London Authority: it, London and Greater London are distinct areas. Although it sounds like the Mayor — Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is it? — is far to the right of Sadiq Khan. I can sympathise with her basic point — a private landlord can charge what they what, it’s their house. But I’m very aware we need affordable homes. I’m in one: and know others who need them, too. Especially in place like London and Madrid!
It could be worse for Spain, Olga. The current UK government is … well, Boris is out, after resigning. And the House of Commons is still arguing about the parties he went to, during Lockdown.
† Hello, Mum!
‡ Sometimes, your first answer’s right, Debbi. Mind you, I can never answers half the questions on Mastermind, so I’m a fine one to talk!
¶ The GLA’s the current authority, Olga. I’m sure you know it was the Greater London Council, during the 1980s: and the equivalent in the 1960s was the London County Council! Heigh ho!
