Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th October, 2020

24th October, 2020.

Right, just so everyone knows: I’ve had to mention the fact in today’s video intro …

It’s now no longer Crazy Hair Day.

We can safely but the spray-on dye …

~≈😌≈~

JUST as a remember for those of us in the UK … ?

Tonight sees the end of British Summer Time, and the start of Greenwich Mean Time.

The clocks go back, in other words.

Although, it has to be said … most of the things in my flat with clock will reset themselves.

All I have to make sure of?

Is the clock on my wall.

~≈🤔≈~

The BBC’s not posted it to their news website, as yet.

But … ?

I’m listening to Radio 4’s Today programme, right now.

Apparently?   The government is cutting the number of laptops it’s making available to schools: the laptops schools are supposed to hand out to family on low incomes, who need them to access online lessons.

Frankly?   I’m not surprised.

But also thinking that it’s something I should add to my various pieces on digital poverty.

There’s hoping Aunty Beeb post those pieces, soon.

~≈😐≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, Edith^, and Debbiª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum and Edith on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1)        24th October, 1926, saw whose last performance?

Q2)        24th October, 1985, saw the birth of footballer, Wayne Rooney.   He’s currently player-manager of which Championship side?

Q3)        24th October saw the birth of Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg.   The Swedish YouTuber is better known how?

Q4)        24th October is Independence Day.   In which African nation: Tunisia, Uganda or Zambia?

Q5)        Finally … ?   24th October, 1983, saw the start of the trial Dennis Nilsen, start.   Who played Nilsen, in the 2020 drama, Des?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        23rd October saw the birth of footballer, Pelé.   In which year?
A1)        1940.

Q2)        He tried out for his first side at the age of 15: for the Brazilian team, Santos.   He signed the contract in which year: 1954, 1955 or 1956?
A2)        1956.   (He’s still — according to Wikipedia — the team’s top goalscorer.)

Q3)        He played as a what: goalkeeper, forward or mid-fielder?
A3)        Forward.

Q4)        Which national side did Pelé play for … ?
A4)        Brazil.

Q5)        Finally … 2000 saw Pelé named as one of two people named as Player of the Century.   Who was the other?
A5)        Diego Maradona.   (I’m not a fan of football.   But, like many other English people?   Am tempted to spit whenever Diego ‘Cheating B*s†ard’ Maradona gets a mention.)
Here’s a thought …
“Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not?”
Wayne Rooney, born 24th October, 1985.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’ll look forward to hearing about it, Olga!   Thankfully, I didn’t have to keep up the vague Keith Flint look for the rest of the day!   (By the sound of things, there’s a Fargo series, as well.)

*        So nothing like Keith Flint, then, Trevor?   I can just imagine a punk monk turning up, at some point.   Actually, now I think of it … ?   I seem to recall that the old Celtic church had a different type of tonsure.
There’s something else, as well.   I watched a series called Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, a few years ago.   One episode was about London’s sewers: built in the wake of an outbreak of cholera.   The only people not serious affected by the bacteria from one standpipe, were the brewers taking water from it.   They were boiling it, and making beer.   (As a thought, Trevor?   Olga’s not the person to ask about Sherry: it’s made on the other side of Spain from her.)

‡        Morning, Mum!

^        He did, Edith?   I always had the impression soccer wasn’t popular in the States …

ª        You know, Debbi, I always felt Tuppence was a good name for cat.   Or Tuppence Ha’penny, if you want to be posh!
Oh, just so you, Edith and Trevor know, Debbi, I caught the first two episodes of Fury from the Deep, last night.   I’ll have the review and video up, later.   There’s a character in it called Robson, played by an actor called Victor Maddern.   He turns up in Hammer into Anvil as the band leader who gets questioned!   The cartoon version’s a good resemblance: mind you, he’s got a distinctive face!

A1 Harry Houdini
A2 Derby County – He is player-coach not player-manager. There is a big difference.
A3 PewDiePie
A4 Zambia
A5 David John Tennant

Having holidayed in many parts of the Spanish Main land and Islands I do have a good knowledge of the Geography of España. Also having watched Spanish football I do know the political differences (bordering on War) between the different regions.

I forgot all about the bad hair day. When I got to the girl's house there was a bit of a drama going on. She had been invited to a party and had decided to make some cookies, but she didn't have time to finish it all before the class and was supposed to leave straight after, so there were tears and everything. Thankfully she settled down, and we ended up quite involved trying to solve a crossword puzzle. (Her mother assisted her with the baking and the cookies smelled nice, although I didn't get to try any).
To be honest, there is always some drama going on, either with her younger brothers, the mother... A bit like a soap opera. By contrast, at least so far, the other girl is more challenging due to her problems with English, but so far the house has been pretty calm, and her sister is not very young either.
Enjoy the weekend.
